The Staggered Green
The typical central core office layout, although highly efficient, depends heavily on mechanical ventilation and lighting due to its deep office space with only one side of windows possible. To create a more sustainable working environment, we must abandon the norm of a central core office and rethink the ideal plan for work space.
Thin office plan (approx. 8m in width) with operable windows on both sides allows natural lighting and cross ventilation, and thus minimising the need for mechanical support and hence reduce carbon emission. By taking the Thin Space as the basic building block, can we imagine a building completely composed of Thin Spaces to suit the various programmatic requirements?
