The Glories area, a century and a half after being conceived as the main intersection of the city, is still a capital gap. Its vocation of unquestionable centrality of the Barcelona Metropolis is still pending.
The tension generated by the coincidence of two major trace diagonals ( Diagonal and Meridiana ) with great communication axis transverse the city ( Gran Via ) filing progressive railroad, various infrastructure services, have resulted in a huge point of fracture of urban continuity . The result of a collection of successive projects and partially implemented ones is a huge place outside the edges of the urban area. A site without a true urban idea, integrating the multiplicity and diversity of Morphological and functional requirements specific to the new central area of Barcelona century.
- Reconciling the metropolitan centrality and the comfort associated with a large park .
- Reduce the dominance of road infrastructure in the “land project” to become a place of reference , rather than a crossing area, establishing an intelligent compromise between proximity and mobility.
- Take advantage of the overlapping public transport infrastructure to generate an integrated solution ( exchanger ) in connection with the intense close buildings, uses and activities .
- Encourage the dynamic nature of Glories by mixing activities.
- Think Glories as an intense dialogue between architecture hierarchy, the main metropolitan areas and public spaces that make up everything .
- Create a central place in which one’s own intrinsic quality and its overlap with the urban tissues and streets are equivalent conditions.
- Interpret and respect the continuity on the big tracks that converge in Glories and consider its potential as a general guideline for the new project area .
- Create a dynamic and vibrant park for a site full of differences. A park changing in time, reflection of a ” new spirit ” that combines urban and ecological significance with the aim of defining a new model of central open space that contributes to solving environmental problems of Glories.
