The structure of a land starts by the constitution from its soil. Therefore, in order to record the geographical characteristics of a region, you must first enter in its geology. Sometimes this explains almost everything.
Barcelona, according to their mineral stratigraphy, presents, from west to east, a clear succession of environments: Collserola, Pla and Coastline, with the basins of the Llobregat and Besòs in the South and North. In this system emerges a mediator and unique trading area between the sea and the land: it is the delta of the two rivers, where the transition between substrates, compact and spongy occurs.
Thus, the boundary line between the Delta Plan and Besòs divides two geological entities , separating the strong and sturdy ground and soft sandy substrate . This divide has been a source of recognizable traces that have conditioned the evolution of the place: it was drawn on the Roman aqueduct – Rec Comtal precursor of the railway line in the nineteenth century that linked the city to Zaragoza.
