The BMW Group invites architects, urban planners and landscape architects worldwide to submit a candidature with a view to participating in a competition to be held in close cooperation with Bavaria’s capital Munich. The objective of this project is the preparation of a master plan for the long-term development of the BMW Group’s Research and Innovation Center (FIZ). The competition site is located in the Munich boroughs of Milbertshofen –Am Hart and Feldmoching – Hasenberg.
With an area in excess of 100 hectares inclusive of the present-day FIZ, its immediate surrounds, open-air facilities and access routes, the competition site will ensure the Center’s sustained development.
Presently BMW employs a staff of over 26,000 at this location. The Group’s continuous growth, technological changes (such as the emergence of e-mobility, novel materials, and increasing interconnection) and new working time and workplace paradigms necessitate medium-term and long-term restructuring and expansion. Thus, extra area to the extent of approx. 26 hectares has been acquired which, together with parts of the existing development, require restructuring. In line with the disposition of the present-day FIZ, the new development will include areas for research, workshops, studios and offices plus additional functions for joint use by BMW and the neighborhood.
