International architecture competition Greening the Grounds @ Jane + Finch project that aims to revitalize through sustainable design, construction and maintenance the grounds of the three residential towers at the heart of Jane and Finch, a priority neighbourhood in Toronto. To this end, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (“TRCA”) is seeking proposals for a visionary master plan with some additional conceptual designs for designated components of the project.
The landscape improvements are part of a more comprehensive project for this property, which addresses food security, employment, water conservation, stormwater management, beautification and tree, shrub and flower planting, while giving special attention to community cohesion and cultural pride. This is a high profile pilot project that could serve as an urban renewal precedent for the hundreds of apartment complexes built in the Toronto Region in the 1960s and 1970s. It will showcase the great opportunity to transform under-utilized, private open spaces into sustainable parks for the enjoyment of nature, the promotion of social development, and the facilitation of community building.
