COMPETITION ENTRY
To enter the competition, contestants must register in advance via the competition website: http://www.unav.edu/web/catedra-madera/concurso-pfc
Registration is free. Groups cannot register for the competition.
Registration before April 20, 2022 is required to be able to participate in the competition. Sending the completed registration form implies the acceptance of the terms and conditions of the competition.

DOCUMENTATION
All documentation must be submitted under a motto made up of a combination of six letters or numbers characters. It must not include the name of the participant or the country or the school to which he/she belongs.
Submissions must be designed in a maximum of three digital panels standard A1 size, portrait format. All files will be uploaded through the website of the Wood Chair in PDF format or JPG image, according to the instructions in the mail received after registration.
These panels will include:
-Motto of the project
-Project summary of approximately 500 words.
-Description of the sustainability issues of the project.
-Description of the timber involvement in the development of the project.
The texts can be written in either English or Spanish. It is allowed the use of plans, photographs, computer graphics and text, or any other technique of representation.
The winning project will be required to submit high-resolution artwork for use in publications and promotional material.
A selection of submitted projects and the winner will be published on the website of the Wood Chair.

SUBMISSIONS
The FYP documentation will remain in the possession of the School of Architecture at the University of Navarra and Wood Chair, which may make free use of it for the purposes of publication or whatever other forms of communication they deem appropriate.

DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF SUBMISSION
The documentation must be submitted on-line before 22:00 hours (CET) on April 30, 2022.

JURY DELIBERATIONS
A jury composed of two professors from the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra, representatives of the Wood Chair and one renowned architect will meet during May 2022 to discuss the proposals and decide the award.
The decision will be made according to the following criteria:
-Wood as the main structural material,
-Creative and innovative use of wood in the design,
-Adequate response to the basic architectural and functional criteria,
-Architectural coherence,
-Environmental and sustainability criteria.


Short Description

AWARD FOR THE BEST FINAL YEAR PROJECT USING WOOD
The School of Architecture of the University of Navarra, together with the Wood Chair, hosts this international competition to award a prize for the best Final Year Project whose standard of quality, innovation, originality or creativity, foregrounds the use of wood und sustainability aspects within an architectural project.

Prizes

AWARD
The prize is awarded for the Final Year Project (FYP) that the jury regards as having reached the highest standard of quality in the use of wood as a key element in the architectural design.
The award comprises a scholarship to attend the Second Spanish Timber Construction Forum, and the Timber Construction Summer Course offered by the School of Architecture University of Navarra.
The Timber Construction summer course will allow students to understand the characteristics of the wood material, modern construction with timber, and future technological and scientific advances. It is coordinated by Prof. José Manuel Cabrero (Spanish expert in the Eurocode 5 Connections Working Group) and it will have Prof. Markus Hudert (Aarhus University, Dinamarca).
The International Forum for Timber Construction in Spain is organized by the international platform forum-holzbau, which brings together universities from Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Canada. It focuses mainly on technical and practical issues, oriented to the professional world. In parallel to a program of conferences by speakers of maximum international relevance, an exhibition is held where the latest advances in products and techniques in the sector are presented.
The prize will be awarded within the Second Spanish Timber Construction Forum, which will take place in Pamplona in June 2022.

Who can Participate

Submissions are welcome from individuals who presented their FYP at any officially recognized School of Architecture in their home country between September 2017 and February 2022. In exceptional cases, projects that have not yet been graded may be submitted, provided that a letter of approval from the project director is enclosed with the submission.
Projects are to be submitted in Spanish or English and must be validated with the approval of the project director or supervisor.
