X3 – Dang Ngoc Tu – Nguyen Manh HungHanoi Architectural University
Well, firstly, we want to thank Archmedium for creating such interesting competitions for both architecture students and young graduates!
Our X3 team includes 2 members: Dang Ngoc Tu ( young graduate) and Nguyen Manh Hung (student). We both studied in Hanoi Architectural University (Viet Nam).
Rome Motorino Checkpoint was our first collaboration. When the competition was announced, we immediately decided to join it because in Viet Nam, motorcycle checkpoint is very popular. If you take a tour around our streets, you can easily see that they are full of motorcycle, not so many cars or bicycles. Italian Vespa is one of the most favourite scooters in our country, too. And with some knowledges about this kind of architecture, we embarked on our concept.

The design is quite literally a reflection of its surroundings. It is a minimal intervention and appears as a simple camouflage in order to give place for the characteristic images of Rome. A smoke-like aluminum roof sits on top of a steel column system, wrapping itself around the trees in the parking lots, providing a series of connected spaces while keeping a continuous view from the roads to Roma Termini station. An aluminum layer that covers the supplementary services rooms reflects the trees, the scooters and bicycles in the parking lots, the buildings around and the sky. Its appearance changes according to the weather, allowing it to melt into the surroundings.
The safe circuit: This circuit is the main way that allows riders to access parking lots. It slows down the speed of vehicles when riders go around the curves. By the way, after repairing the scooter in the repair shop, rider can test it through this circuit.
