Colony on Mars

Mars-Colony.jpg Colony on Mars

COLONY ON MARS ©

This past August, NASA announced a mission that would take astronauts back to the surface of the moon with the intent of creating a long-term exploration base. Code-named Artemis, the project will see astronauts building the Artemis Base Camp which will then be used as a lunar base for future missions into deep space. Furthermore, the first civilian lunar orbital mission to the Moon is planned to take place in 2023, and it is sponsored by the dearMoon project. With that in mind, it’s only a matter of time when we could see the first civil settlement on Mars being built and put to use. This is the starting point of our challenge and your mission. What do you think the first colony on Mars will look like? How do you think it should be organized and what measures should be taken to ensure the safety and sustainability of its inhabitants? In short, how would you design the very first Mars colony? We ask for our participants to design a colony for 100.000 people, and it should be prepared to grow and be seen as a new start for civilization. The goal is to be self-sufficient, relying on the bare minimum to be imported goods from Earth. This should go along with a short description of your proposal, no more than 150 words.
