Château de Nalys – Construction of a wine cellar in Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Embodying the values of the Guigal Family :If the richness of Maison Guigal’s identity results from the combination of strong values, it is the family spirit that predominates. The future project must embody this family philosophy in Châteauneuf-du-Pape while translating the prestige of its wines through an authentic and contextual architectural typology.
The objective of the Guigal family is to reveal the exceptional potential of the Nalys estate through two axes of transformation: the revaluation of the vineyard and the construction of a real production tool.A sustainable building, reflecting a long-term vision :The notions of heritage and transmission are essential for the Guigal family, whose wish is to leave to future generations an architectural heritage that is long-lasting, solid and adaptable. The Nalys estate is an old vineyard, with an average age of fifty years. The planting of a vine today will have a production project in thirty years at the earliest. It is in this long time, imposed by the rhythm of nature, that the Guigal family wishes to inscribe its construction project. A building with a timeless character, in the image of the great wines it produces.
Engage in a state-of-the-art environmental approach :The Guigal family’s wish is to make the building as energy self-sufficient as possible. The estate targets temperature requirements very precisely and relies on architectural rather than technological principles. For example, burying part of the program will limit the use of technology and ensure consistency and inertia that will benefit the wine. Intelligent design will minimize energy costs and use the most energy-efficient technologies. On-site energy generating and saving devices are strongly encouraged, but must be integrated into the site.
Estimated Envelope : €10,000,000
Construction : 4,000sqm
Located in the heart of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, Château de Nalys is a historic winegrowing estate of around 100 hectares, including 77 hectares of vines, dating back to the end of the 16th century.
The flagship of the Guigal family for the southern part, this property, bought in 2017, has rare historic buildings lost in recent constructions of the 70s and 80s of mediocre quality. The offices, the old cellars and a recent technical building are therefore to be integrated into a project including the construction of agricultural buildings intended to house the viticulture division of the estate, but also and above all a vinification and maturing cellar corresponding to the quality requirements sought by the technical teams of Château de Nalys and the Guigal family. With a direct view of the famous Château de Papes as well as Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail, this site already enjoys an exceptional location and the architectural project implemented will have to ensure careful integration into the landscape while making the Château de Nalys a remarkable building, capable of standing the test of time, beyond any fashion or trend.
